About The Organisers
The Great Knaresborough Race is organised by The Knaresborough Lions Club.
The Knaresborough Lions Club was established in 1987 as a voluntary group to serve the community. It stages fund-raising events such as the Great Knaresborough Bed Race, the Lions Beer Festival held during the town's feva arts and entertainment festival, it helps run the Christmas Market and the Easter Fayre, tours the streets with Santa in the weeks leading up to Christmas and helps to marshal other social events in North Yorkshire.
Lions disburse funds to local groups in need in Knaresborough, surrounding villages and through Nidderdale to Pateley Bridge and beyond. They help fund, collect and distribute parcels for the elderly at Christmas, run outings, contribute to social causes at local sports clubs, special centres, medical and other facilities, support initiatives with schools and community centres, and help individuals and families facing hardship.
The club is part of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organisation with 1.35 million members in about 46,000 clubs in 196 countries. The Lions are dedicated to effective community service and as members of a volunteer organisation the money they raise goes to charitable and community causes - all administrative costs are met by the Lions themselves.
